You’ve probably been searching for engagement session locations in Atlanta and feeling a mix of excitement… and also where do we even start?
Because you don’t just want a pretty spot, you want something that actually feels like you. And maybe you’re also wondering how to make it all feel natural and not awkward in front of the camera (I promise, you’re not alone in that).
That’s exactly why I put this together for you!
Atlanta really is one of the best places for engagement photos, with its mix of charming hidden gems, lush natural backdrops, elegant historic settings, and that beautiful skyline. Whether you’re dreaming of something urban, romantic, or a little whimsical, there’s truly something here for everyone.
I know how overwhelming it can be to narrow down the perfect location, so I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite spots I’ve photographed in and around the Atlanta area (in no particular order!) along with a few helpful tips from experience.
And while I’m a people-centered photographer who can make just about any location work… let’s be honest, a great backdrop definitely doesn’t hurt!
If you’re reading through this and still feeling a little unsure which direction to go, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. Helping my couples choose a location that actually feels like them is one of my favorite parts of the process! I’ll usually start by getting a sense of what you’re drawn to, whether that’s something more natural and outdoorsy, a city feel, or a more refined estate vibe. And if you’re not totally sure yet, I’ll guide you through it by learning what you love to do together and building from there.
Sometimes that looks like a couple telling me they love slow weekends trying new restaurants and sharing a bottle of wine, and we end up at a vineyard that just fits them perfectly. That’s the goal every time (:
Because when the location fits you, everything starts to feel a little more natural, a little more fun, and a lot less forced—and that’s where the magic really happens!
If you’ve ever googled “best engagement photo locations in Atlanta,” chances are Piedmont Park popped up, and for good reason. This Midtown gem spans over 200 acres and offers so many beautiful backdrops. Think dreamy gardens, striking architectural details, and a dock that overlooks a peaceful lake… it’s basically a photographer’s playground!
What I love about this spot is how much variety we can get without having to go far, which makes your session feel easy and relaxed instead of rushed. Whether you’re going for something romantic, a little more playful, or even slightly editorial, Piedmont Park gives us so much to work with.
This is a great fit for couples who want a mix of nature and city, without having to fully commit to one or the other.

📍 Parking tip: I usually recommend parking at the SAGE Parking Facility. It’s super convenient, just note that it’s now only accessible through the Monroe Drive NE entrance, not through the Botanical Gardens side. From there, it’s a quick walk to most of my favorite photo spots. Parking is typically around $7 to $10 per vehicle.
📅 Heads up: Before locking in a date, I always recommend checking the park’s website for any major events. You’ll definitely want to avoid showing up during a festival or 5K. Trust me… been there, done that!
🌅 Photographer tip: If you’re up for it, sunrise sessions here arean absolute dream. The light is beautiful, and we basically have the park to ourselves. Yes, it’s early—but SO worth it!

If you’re looking for a historic setting with a wide variety of backdrops, Barrington Hall is such a beautiful option! Built in 1839 in a Greek Revival architectural style, the property features stunning white columns, open green lawns, and a mix of charming outdoor spaces like fountains, a gazebo, and rose gardens.
This is one of my go-to locations for both engagement sessions and family sessions because it offers so much versatility without feeling crowded—and once you’re on the property, it almost feels like you’ve stepped away from the busyness of Roswell.
📸 Before planning your session at Barrington Hall, keep in mind that a photo permit is required. The City of Roswell manages permits, and you can contact them directly at photopermits@roswellgov.com for the most up-to-date details. If you’re planning to shoot here more than once, it’s definitely worth looking into the annual permit option!
It’s also a good idea to check in with the city ahead of time to make sure there aren’t any large events or group sessions scheduled (like prom photos—learned that one the hard way). A quick email can help you avoid unexpected crowds and make sure your session feels relaxed and enjoyable.

If you’re dreaming of an elegant engagement photo location in Atlanta, the Swan House is truly unmatched. This historic mansion has a façade that radiates timeless grandeur—and that dramatic staircase? A literal dream for romantic portraits. Every corner of the estate offers something special, from the rose and boxwood gardens to a quiet Japanese garden tucked away like a hidden gem.
🎬 Fun fact: You might recognize the Swan House from The Hunger Games—yes, it’s that mansion! Which probably explains the pretty hefty permit fee (between $650-$750) to shoot here. But if you’re after editorial, European-inspired, or just jaw-droppingly beautiful engagement photos, it’s totally worth the investment.
📸 Photographer tip: Because of the permit and time restrictions, I’d recommend planning ahead with this one—we’ll want to make the most of every dreamy corner.

If you’re drawn to something a little more elegant and timeless, Millennium Gate Museum is such a unique option right in the heart of Atlanta. It has this beautiful blend of classical and modern design, so it feels elevated without being overly formal.
The grand entrance is modeled after the ancient Roman Arch of Titus, which makes for a really dramatic, almost European-feeling backdrop (and honestly… it photographs so well). While I’ve personally only photographed sessions on the exterior of the property, it has always been more than enough to create a full, beautiful gallery.
Inside, there’s also a variety of spaces to work with—from gardens, to a replica of the Oval Office, to a stunning rotunda with a painted ceiling—so you can get a really diverse look if you choose to explore more of the space.
This is one of those spots that works especially well for couples who love a more refined, editorial feel but still want their photos to feel natural and connected.
Just a quick note: there is a photo permit fee starting at $200 for up to 2 hours.

This is easily one of the most beautiful spots in the state (In my opinion!). It’s not in Atlanta, but just over an hour drive north—and honestly, it is WELL worth it.

Whether you’re drawn to something more natural and rustic or a little more elegant and refined, Berry College truly has a bit of everything. The campus is filled with breathtaking scenery—rolling hills, open fields, lakes, gardens—and some of the most beautiful historic buildings, including the iconic Ford buildings and Frost Chapel.
Because it’s so expansive, this is one of those locations where your session can feel like a full experience rather than just stopping in one spot. We’ll typically drive to a few different areas around campus to make the most of it, which gives you a really diverse gallery without feeling rushed.

This is such a perfect fit for couples who want their session to feel a little more adventurous and intentional—like you’re making a whole afternoon out of it together instead of just checking something off your list.
📌 A couple quick things to know: when you arrive at the entrance, you’ll just need to present your driver’s license to enter. As of now, there’s no photo permit fee (which our couples love), and as long as the grounds are respected—no littering, confetti, or anything like that—they’ve continued to keep access open for portrait sessions.

If you’re drawn to more of an upscale, city feel, Midtown is such a fun option with a ton of variety. There’s a mix of everything here—street murals, graffiti, sculptures, historic buildings—and it gives your photos so much depth and character without having to travel far.
One of my personal favorite areas is around the Federal Reserve Bank. It has such a clean, architectural look that pairs really well with that elevated, city vibe.

What I love about Midtown is that your session can feel a little more like exploring together. We can walk, stop where the light is hitting just right, and lean into whatever catches your eye along the way, which keeps things feeling natural instead of overly posed.
This is a great fit for couples who love getting dressed up a bit, enjoy being in the city, and want their photos to feel modern, energetic, and a little editorial.
Parking in one of the nearby decks is usually around $10 to $20. But here’s a little insider tip… one of the local shops can validate your parking if you grab something small, like a bottle of water.
And if we time it right, ending on a rooftop parking deck for those glowy sunset tones with the skyline in the background is always worth it!

Tucked away just minutes from downtown Atlanta, Cator Woolford Gardens is one of those hidden gems that feels straight out of a fairytale. If you’re drawn to something romantic and a little old-world, this spot is such a beautiful option!
With its towering hardwoods, blooming flowers, and quiet water features, there’s so much variety here. You can lean into a more whimsical, wooded feel or something a little more polished and garden-inspired, all without ever leaving the property. And the grand Italian staircase and stone colonnades add that timeless elegance that makes everything feel a little extra special.
This is one of those locations that works especially well for couples who want something soft, romantic, and a little more elevated, but still want the experience to feel relaxed and natural.

💐 Why I love it: It creates such an effortlessly romantic atmosphere. You really don’t have to force anything here, it just kind of happens!
📸 Photographer tip: There is a photo permit fee of $100 per hour for engagement sessions, and availability can vary depending on events. I always recommend checking their official photography page ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
🚗 Parking & amenities: On-site parking is available, but there aren’t accessible indoor spaces or restrooms during your session. I recommend arriving in your first outfit and bringing anything else you’d like to change into.
🐾 Bonus: Leashed pets are welcome, which always makes things a little more fun (and personal)!

This location is perfect because of its versatility. The center has a variety of locations that can be used for photos, including the formal gardens, the grand staircase, and the historic mansion. This allows for a diverse range of photos that capture your unique personalities and styles. The gardens are well-maintained and offer a variety of colors and textures that make for stunning photos!!
📷 Photography Tip: Just recently, they implemented a mandatory photo permit fee of $100 per hour. Photography on the grounds are also limited to a few days during the week. You can access their photoshoot inquiry form on their website here.

If you’re dreaming of something that feels a little more like an experience than just a session, Montaluce Winery is such a beautiful option. Tucked into the foothills of the North Georgia mountains, it has that open, scenic feel that almost makes you forget you’re still in Georgia.
Between the vineyard views, rolling hills, and surrounding mountains, everything about this place feels calm, romantic, and just a little bit elevated. And the best part is, there’s so much variety here. You can choose between the vineyard, the lake, the gardens, or even areas around the winery itself, so your gallery ends up feeling really full and intentional without having to go far.
This is one of those locations that’s perfect for couples who want their session to feel like a date… something a little slower, a little more relaxed, and something you can actually enjoy together.

🍷 Why I love it: It has that “escape” feeling without needing to travel far. Everything about it feels peaceful, romantic, and easy to settle into.
📸 Photographer tip: No permit is required, but you will need to sign a waiver at the front desk when you arrive. I also always recommend calling ahead to make sure there aren’t any weddings or events happening, since that can limit where we’re able to shoot.
🚗 Good to know: Because it’s a larger property, we may walk or drive to a couple different spots depending on what areas you’re most drawn to.
✨ Bonus: You can stay after your session and enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the vineyard… which honestly just feels like the perfect way to end it.

This is a great destination engagement shoot location due to its natural beauty. The driftwood trees and the surrounding nature create a serene and peaceful environment, making it a perfect place to capture romantic moments. The beach also provides a tranquil and intimate atmosphere that will help you feel relaxed and comfortable during your photo shoot. The contrast between the driftwood, ocean, and sunset makes for perfect versatility. There are no fees; However, afternoons during peak seasons can attract a big crowd and other photographers.

If you’re drawn to more raw, natural spaces, Arabia Mountain might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a massive granite landscape that spans over 2,000 acres, and it has this really open, peaceful feel to it that’s hard to replicate anywhere else around Atlanta.
If you’re up for a little adventure, there are hiking trails with some really beautiful, scenic views that make the whole experience feel a bit more like a date than just a photoshoot. But if you’d rather keep things simple, there are also plenty of quieter, more enclosed wooded spots that still give you that nature feel without too much walking.
This is one of those locations that works especially well for couples who just want to slow down, breathe a little, and enjoy being together without a lot of distractions.
And one quick tip from experience… definitely bring bug spray. Trust me on that one.

The natural beauty of the farm provides a stunning backdrop for photos. The expansive fields of gardens, rows of fruit trees, and vibrant flowers offer a variety of textures and colors that will make your photos pop. The farm also features charming rustic buildings and vintage farm equipment that can add an extra touch of character to your photos. You can walk hand-in-hand through the orchards or explore the fields together, creating romantic moments that will be captured in your photos. Best of all, the owner is SO nice and accommodating. This location does require an hourly fee of $75. Also, Bring bug spray!!!! I can’t tell you how many times I got bit while we were shooting this engagement session!

I’m a travel enthusiast who calls Georgia home sweet home. I’m drawn to spontaneous adventure just as much as I value familiar routine — especially slow mornings with coffee in hand and my pup close by.
I believe the best photographs come from real connection and thoughtful intention. If connection and intention matter to you, you’re in the right place.
